Amherst County Gold Star Honor Roll, World War II

In the Museum's research library is a copy of Gold Star Honor Roll of Virginians in the Second World War, published in 1947. In the foreward by Gov. Colgate W. Darden, he thanks the Virginia World War II History Commission for the diligent efforts and notes that the Commissioned was established in 1944 and thus the volume may not be comprehensive. In recognition of Memorial Day, the following names from the Gold Star Honor Roll are listed. The Museum Director is personally aware of at least one soldier not listed—Capt. Robert Barnes Ware, a medical doctor who lost his life on June 6, 1944, and whose medals are displayed at the Amherst County Museum. If you know of additional names to be added, please contact the Museum at 434-946-9068 or email the Museum.
