Photographs of Rose's Mills Site

Side passage house
Side passage house on slope above the Rose's Mills site. Deed research indicates that the house dates from 1812. The house was probably intended to be used as a residence for the overseer of the mill.

Piney River looking upstream
Looking upstream from the railroad bridge on the Piney River where the dam used to be. On the left of the photo is a rocky/sandy area mentioned in an old deed as the place where sand was mixed.

Site of old mill pond
Field on the south side of the Piney River. An 1812 survey shows this as part of the old mill pond. On the right side of the photograph is the high ground where John Rose built a house.

House just south of the Piney River bridge
This house is just south of the bridge over the Piney River. The house, built about 1820, sits above the dam site. It is believed to be the home of John N. and Mary Rose. John N. Rose was son of Patrick and grandson of the Rev. Robert Rose.

Along the Piney River
